“Randall’s Foods at Westlake Shopping Center will close its doors just a few days before Cub Foods will open at Glen Hollow Shopping Center, either in late January or early February.

‘Randall’s Foods, based in Mitchell SD owns Randall’s as well as the Cub Food chain.

The 65 Randall’s employees will transfer to the new 68,000- square-foot. Cub store, said William Bell, Randall’s Foods director of operations. An additional 100 employees will be hired for the Cub store, Bell said.

“The Randall’s store has been aging and this is a chance to bring in new technology,” Bell said. “The new store (Cub) is almost twice as big.”

The Randall’s store will operate with its current business practices until closing, assured store manager Steve Winger.

Randall’s opened in Peoria on March 2, 1975.

Westlake Shopping Center developer Cohen Development Co. has identified a° potential tenant for the Randall’s building, Said Les Cohen, executive vice president. Cohen would not release the name of the potential tenant saying the agreement was not yet complete.
